Endodontic Retreatment Litchfield Park

With the appropriate care, your teeth that have had endodontic treatment will last as long as other natural teeth. Yet, a tooth that has received treatment may fail to heal or pain may continue to exist. Sometimes, the pain may occur months or years after treatment. If so, Endodontic Retreatment may be needed.

Improper healing may be caused by:

  • Curved or narrow canals were not treated during the initial treatment.
  • Complicated canals went undetected during the initial treatment.
  • The crown or restoration was not placed within the appropriate amount of time following the procedure.
  • The crown or restoration did not prevent saliva from contaminating the inside of the tooth.

In some cases, new problems can influence a tooth that was successfully treated:

  • New decay can expose a root canal filling material, causing infection.
  • A cracked or loose filling or crown can expose the tooth to new infection.

Once retreatment has been selected as a solution to your problem, the doctors will reopen your tooth to gain access to the root canal filling material. This restorative material will be removed to enable access to the root canal.
The doctors will now clean your canals and carefully examine the inside of the problematic tooth. Once cleaned, the doctors will fill and seal the canals and place a temporary filling in the tooth.

At this point, you will need to return to your dentist as soon as possible in order to have a new crown or restoration placed on the tooth to restore full functionality.

Dr. Thompson is amazing! I had an accident which left me needing emergency care. I was referred by my dentist and Dr. Thompson got me in right away and took excellent care of me. He, my dentist and my orthodontist worked together to come up with a creative treatment plan allowing me to keep what was left of my tooth. Every visit over the past year has been pleasant, efficient and pain free. Margie, Blanca and the rest of the staff are welcoming and skilled, even willing to assist on the weekend when it was needed. I cannot say enough good things about the team and Dr. Thompson specifically!

Patient Review by Catherine E. M

Dr. Michael Thompson is the best endodontist I've ever been to! He is very knowledgeable, and meticulous. Everything about his practice, staff, and warm welcome put me at ease. His equipment is state-of-the-art and not in every endodontist's office. I had a complicated root canal and thought I would lose the tooth. Dr. Thompson saved my tooth and I'm getting a new crown. He is a rare, and genuine person, driven by service, not profit, kind, compassionate, and soothing. His gentle approach is what I look for in any doctor. Thank you Dr. Thompson!

Patient Review by Michael H

I had my first root canal 4 years ago with Dr Thompson. He did a great job as this one was a bit more extensive and required a second visit to complete the work. I have not had any problems. I recently had a second root canal which was not as severe and he took care of it with one visit and everything went fine. Dr Thompson is very conscientious about keeping me comfortable and pain free. I highly recommend Dr Michael Thompson for your endodontic needs.

Patient Review by James C

I've had root canals done by other dentist before and they left a bad taste in my mouth. Dr. Thompson has done all of my recent root canals with no problems, he even fixed one that was done by a previous dentist. He has won my whole family business and my social networks as well! He gives dentist a great name.
